WRRA is a strong proponent of motorcycle training in general
and the Washington Motorcycle Safety Program in particular. WMSP has been
recognized nationally for the quality of its program.
A few facts about motorcycle training in Washington State:
- The Basic Rider Course is $125 for adults, $50 for those
18 and under. This is for 20 hours of instruction by trained
professionals who are accountable to WMSP for the quality of the courses
they deliver.
- The courses are taught by independent contractors - small
businesses run by local motorcyclists who have undergone rigorous training.
All WMSP instructors are certified in the BRC by the Motorcycle Safety
Foundation.
- This program is completely supported by motorcyclists!
The cost is kept low by 'subsidizing' tuition from motorcycle endorsement
fees.
- The Basic Rider Course provides a motorcycle for your use
during the class. You may not take the BRC on your own motorcycle.
- If you own a motorcycle and have some familiarity with
riding (even if it's been years), you should consider the Intermediate Rider
Course. Please contact an individual training contractor for details.
- You must have a motorcycle endorsement or learner's
permit to ride a motorcycle in Washington State! You can earn your
endorsement through the Basic Rider Course (or the Intermediate Rider
Course, by special arrangement). You can pass an endorsement
examination at a licensing office - but training will make you a better,
safer rider. In fact, most insurance companies offer a discount to
riders who have taken the WMSP program.
